Single digits! Nine days until the election!

Wherever we are and whatever we are doing, Sunday is always a day of worship for us. Olen had been asked to plan and direct a worship service for any of the Battleground Patriots who wanted to have a period of worship before leaving the hotel for our return trip to Alabama. Over forty members of our group joined us in a period of songs of worship, prayers, communion, Bible reading, and a brief lesson based on the Good Samaritan. At the conclusion of our service, we boarded the bus and left Dayton shortly after 8:00 Eastern Time.

Most members of the group visited with each other while we rolled on the miles. Some played cards, some read, and one even did some knitting. Most of the conversation centered around the election and the events of the past five days. Congressman Mo Brooks offered to have a rolling town-hall type meeting with the group as we covered the miles, and for over an hour he took questions from the group and discussed topics such as the tragedy in Libya, government spending, the “lame duck” actions Obama might take if Romney is elected, biased media reports, illegal immigration, and the fair tax, among others. I reminded the boys that they were attending a rolling government lesson taught by a US Congressman. What an opportunity!

Congressman Brooks also told some humorous stories he repeated from his door-knocking experiences the past few days. He told one story to demonstrate how a little information sometimes gets exaggerated as the rumor is passed from person to person. One man he met told Mo that he had heard that Alabama had sent 300 people to Ohio to campaign. (Actually, there were 110 of us, but we would have loved it if our group numbered to 300!)

Our bus driver, who had been helpful, friendly, but fairly quiet-spoken on our trip, told the group that two months ago he was not a Romney supporter, but he started watching TV, keeping up with the news, and is now a committed Romney supporter. (Applause from the group)

We stopped for lunch at Bowling Green and all eyes were glued to the TV (FOX News) that was on inside Burger King. The latest polls were mostly unchanged, but we anxiously await the newest ones that should be announced in a day or two.

We headed farther south. The sky was clear and blue, but it was cold and windy, even in Alabama. We arrived at the Space and Rocket Center about 5:00 to local TV media persons, awaiting family members, flags wavers, and more Romney signs.

After posing for a group photo and stopping to pledge allegiance to the flag, the group separated, and the Battleground Patriots retuned to their separate homes where a good night’s rest was at the top of everyone’s agenda list.

It was a wonderful, exciting, exhausting, and educational five days, and one that none of us will ever forget. Many have died to give us this wonderful opportunity of expressing our wishes at the polls. Get out and vote Ohio…and Alabama!
