Almost ready to check out of our hotel…time for a quick report. We have had a casual day today…packing, etc. Diane took the girls to a mall this morning where they enjoyed trying on several formal outfits just for fun. Some of our group stayed at the hotel and packed and rested, and some of us went to Santa Clara Market, an indigenous market where the local people shop.
There were many varieties of fruits and vegetables for sale in the market that we were not familiar with.
There was also fresh (?) meat, fish, and pork, including a pig’s head if you wanted one for dinner.
Lucy demonstrated her adventurous spirit by purchasing some fried pork rinds at the market. Actually, they were pretty tasty. Close in taste to bacon.
We all met at the hotel about 12:30 and began our process of readjustment to North American ways by going to a pizza restaurant across the street for lunch. We think we will re-adjust fairly well once we get home.
We are now back at the hotel doing our last minute packing, and Victoria made a phone call home while sitting in the stairwell of the Sebastian Hotel. She will be home again in a few hours, mother.
We leave here in just a few minutes, and we have been invited to the home of a friend of Diane’s for ice cream and a time to relax before going to the airport. Ruth is a delightful woman, and we have enjoyed sharing this week with her.
I will probably write a final post when we get home, but for now, “Adios from Ecuador”!
