By popular demand, I have located a photo of the actual “butterfly encounter” of yesterday. I knew the event was documented by members of our group, so I managed to locate a photo that demonstrates the mother butterfly who decided Tim’s ear was the perfect place to deposit her eggs. Enjoy!
Today was our last full day in Ecuador. We have enjoyed a wonderful trip, but it is nearly time to go back home. However, today was as full as the other days.
We began the day with a shopping trip to the Artisan’s Market in Quito. We walked back to the hotel from that area, stopping briefly for more shopping along the way.
Lunch was at Porky’s Restaurant, just two blocks from our hotel. We took a few minutes to freshen up at the hotel and then boarded the bus about 4:00 to head for the location where the church meets in south Quito. We left early for two reasons. First, Diane had invited all of us to see her apartment, a stop we enjoyed very much. Diane has a gorgeous view of the city of Quito and the surrounding mountains. Now, once we get home we will know exactly how to picture her in her surroundings.
Also, we left early because we did not know how long it would take us to reach the place where the church meets for worship, and we did not want to get delayed in the going-home-after-work traffic. As it turned out, we arrived at the church building extremely early, so Mauricio drove us to a new mall nearby, where we spent about 45 minutes. The mall was extremely nice, and huge. It included an amusement park and an ice skating rink, along with many, many stores. We did not recognize many of the stores, but several of the food establishments were familiar…McDonalds, Baskin Robbins, KFC.
Following the period of worship, the group divided into three classes for Bible study. The ladies met in a side room and Vicki taught then about the importance of teaching children truths from the Bible. She demonstrated several techniques and shared with them the newly-translated Spanish Rainbow Lessons.
Our girls taught a children’s class, and had twelve eager children crammed into one small classroom.
The adult class was taught by Tim (with Gary translating), and then a second lesson was taught by Gary.
After the classes, we spent time socializing with the Christians there. Jim enjoyed spending time with Marcello’s mother.
Olen visited with Santiago.
Our girls made new friends with the teenagers there.
It has been a full day. We are back at the hotel beginning to organize our belongings in preparation for our departure tomorrow. However, we have several events planned for tomorrow before boarding the plane for our return flight. Hopefully, you have had a full day today, enjoyed your period of worship and Bible study tonight, and have plans for the day tomorrow that you look forward to.
